Introduction

Icy Strait Point is a small town just down the road from Hoonah, the site of Alaska’s largest Tlingit village, and 22 miles southeast of Glacier Bay National Park. Until the recent collaboration between the community and cruise lines, Icy Strait Point was in a state of economic crisis. Today the revived community has become a fantastic cruise port and tourist destination. Explore the wildlife and culture of Hoonah, Alaska with sight-seeing tours, or ride the longest zipline in the world. Visitors can enjoy leisurely shopping and delectable foods. Icy Straight is essentially a well-executed commercial venture launched in 2004by the Tlingit corporation Huna Totem.

Shopping

The town gives a commemorative "silver dollar" to every visitor on arrival. Icy Strait Point caters to cruise ships so cannery shops have been set up just a few steps from the port. All local shops are Alaskan or locally owned and operated, and the crafts and items for sale are largely locally made.

Dining

Icy Strait Point is a seafood lover’s paradise. The local restaurants serve fresh seafood cuisine that is caught daily and brought to the local harbor.
